Malcolm Ogborn has written a manual for doctors new to leadership in Sudden Leadership: A survival guide for physicians

As a clinician and physician coach, he has pulled together so many useful resources relevant to doctor leaders in this small book.

Practical guidance for better communication, managing conflict and time, building teams, and preventing burnout.

I recommend it to any doctor who truly wants to lead well.

The Patient-Doctor by @drbenbravery is much more than a memoir. Ben’s personal story of being diagnosed with cancer as a young man and then training to be a doctor in the hope that he can improve communication in healthcare is full of lessons for all actors in healthcare.

Effective communication happens when everyone has a voice, is understood, and seeks to understand.

Please read and share this book if you work in healthcare especially. Something for everyone to learn here. I share Ben’s dream of human-centered care.

Wiser: The scientific roots of wisdom, compassion, and what makes us good by Dilip Jesse, MD with Scott Lafee

This is a very important book for anyone taking care of others, especially psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, and nurses.

It's heavy going in places for those not interested in the neuroscience and research of aging.

Dilip Jeste has been instrumental in opening psychiatry up to include wellbeing in it’s expertise after discovering in 2012 with a Google search for positive psychiatry ZERO results!!

Thank you Dr Jeste!

Finally, The Good Life: How to grow a better world by Hannah Moloney @goodlife_permaculture is another practical book worth sharing with anyone who wants to do something about the environment.

Hannah’s book is an easy read that drew me in and made it feel possible that I can do lots of things in response to the climate crisis that makes a positive difference. From gardening, building, cooking, and community action.

I finished this book feeling inspired, hopeful, and happy!
